500 gather for Malaysia #QuranHour in Kuching

KUCHING: Some 500 participants gathered at the Sarawak Islamic Complex Hall here today (Aug 30) for Malaysia #QuranHour 2026, promoting the reading, understanding and appreciation of the Quran among the Muslim community.

The participants, comprising members of Rumah Ngaji Sarawak and the public, took part in Quran recitation, tadabbur and reflection on selected verses.

The programme was organised by Pusat al-Quran Darul Hana and the Kuching North City Commission (DBKU), in collaboration with Kuching North City Hall (DBKU), Sarawak Islamic Complex Management and Rumah Ngaji Sarawak.

Malaysia #QuranHour was held simultaneously nationwide today, with collective recitation and tadabbur sessions aimed at strengthening the culture of engaging with the Quran.

The programme also sought to encourage the appreciation of Quranic values in shaping character, morals and daily life, while supporting efforts to bring the Quran closer to the community by providing the public with opportunities to read and appreciate it together.

Earlier, the programme featured Quranic recitation by Nur Syakura Mohamad Musa, who recited verses 183 to 185 of Surah al-Baqarah, followed by the recitation of Surah al-Muzzammil by Muhamad Tamizi bin Haji Hussien.

A tadabbur session was also held by Abdullah Bukhari Abdul Rahim through Tadabbur Surah al-Muzzammil, titled “Guidance to Strengthen the Souls of Preachers”.

The programme also saw the presentation of prizes for the DBKU Quran Memorisation Competition as well as the Qari and Qariah Competition.

Also present were DBKU director Ramzi Abdillah, Kuching Division Resident Dayang Joanita Azizah Abang Morshidi, DBKU deputy director Mohamad Faisal Adenan, Hana Quran Centre acting director Yusof Hazmi and representatives from relevant agencies.
