KUCHING: The Kuching Lights and Floral Festival 2026 and Luna Light Wonderland at Sarawak Botanical Gardens have been temporarily closed to the public due to worsening haze conditions in Kuching.
Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) said the decision was made in consideration of the safety, health and wellbeing of visitors, workers and all parties involved in the events.
In a Facebook posting today (Aug 31), DBKU said air quality in Kuching was currently at a worrying level, categorised as hazardous, posing potential health risks, particularly to sensitive groups such as children, senior citizens and those with respiratory problems.
“Both Kuching Lights and Floral Festival 2026 and Luna Light Wonderland are temporarily closed to the public until the haze conditions return to a safe level and become suitable for outdoor activities,” it said.
DBKU said it would continue monitoring air quality and haze conditions and would inform the public through its official communication channels once the two events could reopen.
The commission acknowledged the inconvenience caused by the temporary closure but stressed that public safety and health remained its priority.
Members of the public have also been advised to keep up to date with the latest air quality information, reduce outdoor activities if haze conditions worsen and take appropriate measures to safeguard their health and that of their families.
