KUCHING: Hope Place Kuching has stepped in to assist a 67-year-old bedridden cancer patient and her family in Siburan following an alert from a community volunteer.
Chin Lah Fah, who was diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumour, has been bedridden since last December.
She resides with her 72-year-old husband, known only as Pui, and their 36-year-old adult son.
Despite battling his own health issues, including hearing loss, failing eyesight, and chronic knee pain, Pui serves as the primary caregiver for his wife, who still remains conscious and able to speak.
“My wife often experiences depression, mood swings, and frequent bouts of crying for no clear reason,” Pui said during a visit by the Hope Place team.
He said he did his best to keep her comfortable, including carrying her from the bedroom to the living room sofa.
The family also faces difficulties in communicating with their son, who occasionally leaves home for work, although his parents are unaware of details about his employment.
Despite the challenges, Pui expressed gratitude for the support of neighbours and local church members, who regularly visit and assist the family with their daily needs.
He said community members also helped by driving Chin to the hospital for medical appointments.
Following the visit, Hope Place Kuching enrolled the couple in its care programme and provided basic food aid and adult diapers to help ease their financial burden.
