KUCHING: Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) Youth has called for political differences to be set aside in favour of cooperation, evidence and solutions in addressing issues affecting Sarawakians.
In a statement, it said political differences should not prevent elected representatives from working together after elections, citing Mas Gading MP Mordi Bimol’s recent podcast interview, in which he said politicians could compete during elections but should work together afterwards.
PDP Youth said it agreed with the principle, adding that PDP, as a component party of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), remained supportive of the coalition’s political stability, continuity and development agenda.
However, it stressed that serious allegations must be supported by evidence.
Referring to Mordi’s description of the REDEEMS Centre incident as “sabotage” and his claim of having evidence, PDP Youth said the evidence should be made public if deliberate political interference had occurred.
“The public deserves to know who issued the instruction, under what authority it was issued and what actually happened,” it said.
The wing said it would not defend anyone who deliberately obstructed a legitimate government programme benefiting the public, regardless of political affiliation, but broad allegations should not cast suspicion on government agencies, administrators or community institutions without specific evidence.
It also referred to claims that ketua masyarakat and ketua kaum (KMKK) had been discouraged or prevented from approaching the Mas Gading MP Service Centre for assistance.
PDP deputy president and Tasik Biru assemblyman Datuk Henry Harry Jinep had clarified that KMKK within Tasik Biru had never been prohibited from seeking allocations from Mordi, it said.
“If there are specific cases where any village leader was genuinely threatened, intimidated or penalised merely for approaching an elected Member of Parliament, then those cases should be identified and properly examined,” it said.
PDP Youth also said public programmes, including the B2 motorcycle licence initiative, should benefit the people rather than become political battlegrounds.
“If there was an administrative problem, resolve it. If procedures need improvement, improve them. If there was deliberate political interference, prove it,” it said.
On the Selampit Bridge, the wing said the project deserved urgent attention as residents had waited long enough for proper connectivity.
It noted that Mordi had acknowledged the project faced land issues, weather conditions, redesign requirements and administrative processes.
“The objective now should be straightforward: complete the bridge, provide the necessary access road and make the infrastructure genuinely usable for the people,” it said, stressing that residents needed functioning infrastructure rather than political arguments over who deserved credit.
PDP Youth also said Mordi’s position as a federal deputy minister placed him in a stronger position to facilitate solutions through federal-state cooperation.
It urged him to use federal channels where necessary, engage the Sarawak government where state cooperation was required and bring relevant agencies together to resolve outstanding issues.
The wing said it was prepared to debate DAP on policies, political direction and performance, but stressed that development required cooperation.
“YB Mordi said politicians can compete during elections and work together afterwards.
“We accept that principle. So let us apply it,” it said.
