DEBAK: The completion of an upgraded farm road in Ulu Bayor is set to improve access to agricultural areas and ease the transportation of farm produce for residents of Rumah Panjang Ulu Bayor.
Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, who chairs the Betong Division Development Agency (BDDA), said the project was carried out through an allocation from the agency.
The Betong Division Public Works Department (PWD), which served as the implementing agency, completed the project according to the stipulated schedule and specifications.
The improved road provides a vital link for residents travelling to their agricultural areas, supporting farming activities and the management of their produce.
Uggah, who is also Bukit Saban assemblyman, said infrastructure development must take into account the actual needs of local communities.
“Each area has different needs. For residents involved in agricultural activities, farm roads are among the important facilities that connect them with their farming areas,” he said on his Facebook page on Friday night (Sept. 4).
He also called on residents to jointly maintain the upgraded facility to ensure it remains in good condition for future use.
“This facility is provided for the use of the residents. I hope it will be jointly maintained so that it can continue to be used properly in the future,” he said.
A project handover ceremony was attended by representatives from the Betong Division PWD, BDDA and the Debak Sub-District Office, as well as Tuai Rumah Jimmy, representatives from the Bukit Saban Assemblyman’s Service Centre, and contractor City Services Contractor.
Meanwhile, Tuai Rumah Jimmy expressed his appreciation to Uggah and the Sarawak Government for the allocation that enabled the project to be realised.
The completed road is expected to strengthen connectivity between Ulu Bayor residents and their agricultural areas, providing easier access for their day to day farming activities.
