KUCHING: The cloud seeding operation targeting dams in Sarawak has been completed.
The Sarawak Security and Enforcement Unit (UKPS) said the operation targeted the Batang Ai Dam, Murum Dam, and Bakun Dam areas based on atmospheric analysis by the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MET Malaysia).
“The operation was carried out using the Royal Malaysian Air Force’s (TUDM) C-130H transport aircraft, which took off at 1pm this afternoon.
“It carried a sodium chloride salt solution to be sprayed across all targeted locations before landing safely back at 2.30pm,” it said on Monday (Sept 7).
Based on findings and radar monitoring by MET Malaysia for Monday’s operation, the spraying proved effective, recording rainfall activity at targeted locations around the Batang Ai Dam with an average rainfall rate of between 0.5 to 5.0 mm/h.
With the completion of the mission, the cloud seeding operation in Sarawak has officially come to an end.
“Overall, the five-day operation ran smoothly in accordance with established standard operating procedures (SOP), thanks to the committed cooperation of all parties involved.
“This integrated operation based at the Kuching Airbase was carried out through strong cooperation among various agencies.”
