KUCHING: The Sarawak government is developing SelectSarawak, an integrated investment management platform aimed at streamlining investment coordination and approvals in the state.
Deputy Premier and Minister for International Trade, Industry and Investment Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said the platform would facilitate investment approvals centrally through his ministry, with its administration undertaken by InvestSarawak.
He said SelectSarawak is being developed to ensure investors experienced a coordinated Sarawak ecosystem instead of having to navigate a fragmented system involving multiple government agencies.
“Investors expect governments to provide clarity, coordination, speed and confidence that projects can move from concept to implementation.
“We are therefore working to improve the entire investment journey — from initial engagement and site selection, through approvals and infrastructure provision, to project implementation,” he said this in his speech in conjunction with the R.A.C.E To ZERO Kuching Edition held here today.
His speech was read out by Deputy Minister for International Trade, Industry and Investment Datuk Dr Malcolm Mussen Lamoh.
He said InvestSarawak served as the state’s central agency for investment facilitation and One-Stop Centre for investors, while his ministry is also finalising the comprehensive Sarawak Investment Policy.
According to Awang Tengah, the policy would provide greater clarity on Sarawak’s strategic direction and institutional framework, strengthen investor confidence and support faster decision-making.
“Our goal is simple, to make it easier for investors to move from conceptualisation to implementation,” he said.
Meanwhile, Awang Tengah said Sarawak’s economic fundamentals continued to attract investors, with the state recording approximately RM116.8 billion in approved investments between 2021 and 2025.
The investments, he said, had created more than 28,000 job opportunities across the manufacturing, services and primary sectors.
He also noted the continued expansion of established multinational companies in Sarawak, including X-FAB, OCI Tokuyama Semiconductor Materials and Western Digital, describing the investments as a demonstration of continued investor confidence in the state.
However, he stressed that Sarawak’s priority going forward is not simply to attract more investments, but to secure quality and strategic investments.
He said such investments should create high-skilled and high-value jobs, introduce new technologies and expertise, strengthen local suppliers and vendors, create opportunities for Sarawakian companies, facilitate technology and knowledge transfer, and connect the state to regional and global value chains.
“This is particularly important as we move further into advanced manufacturing, semiconductors, digital infrastructure and other technology-driven sectors.
“The quality of investment will determine the quality of our economic transformation,” he said.
Awang Tengah said Sarawak’s objective is to build an economy that was more sophisticated, resilient and deeply integrated into global value chains.
