KUCHING: Air quality across Sarawak remained below the very unhealthy level as of 6 pm yesterday (Sept 10), with all monitored locations recording Air Pollutant Index (API) readings below 200.
According to data from the Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB) and Department of Environment (DOE), Serian recorded the highest API reading at 183.
This was followed by Lundu at 180, Samarahan and Sarikei at 179 each, and Kuching at 177.
Samalaju recorded 165, followed by Lubok Antu at 161, Betong at 160, Sri Aman at 158, and Tebedu and Kanowit at 157 each.
Mukah and Sibu registered 155 each.
Meanwhile, seven locations recorded moderate air quality, namely Bintulu at 87, Lawas at 86, Miri at 84, ILP Miri at 81, Kapit at 76, Limbang at 74 and Bario at 64.
Compared with the 1 pm readings, air quality improved in some areas while several others recorded slight increases.
Rain was also reported in several parts of the state during the day.
No location recorded very unhealthy or hazardous air quality as of 6 pm.
Under the API classification, readings of zero to 50 are considered good, 51 to 100 moderate, 101 to 200 unhealthy, 201 to 300 very unhealthy and above 300 hazardous.
