SARATOK: Police arrested a 46-year-old local man suspected of being involved in illegal public lottery sales during an ‘Op Dadu’ operation conducted at a rest hut near the Roban waterfront.

Saratok district police chief DSP Mathew Manggie said the raid took place around 3.09pm on Sept10 by a team from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

“During the raid, the team arrested the suspect who was found alone inside the rest hut at the Roban waterfront.

“The team also seized several items during the operation, including a slip of paper containing written numbers believed to be illegal public lottery entries, a sum of mixed cash, and a black pen,” he said.

Initial investigations revealed that the suspect, who is unemployed, admitted to working as an illegal lottery sales agent around Roban town to earn side income.

Subsequent urine tests returned negative for drugs.

The suspect has two prior police records for gambling offences dating back to 2013 and 2021.

The case is currently being investigated under Section 4A (a) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953.
