KUCHING: More than 400 participants from government agencies and strategic partners took to the court today (Sept 13) as the Land Custody and Development Authority (LCDA) marked its 45th anniversary with a pickleball tournament.

State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki officiated the LCDA 45th Sapphire Anniversary Pickleball Invitational Tournament, held as part of the authority’s 45th anniversary celebrations themed “45 Tahun LCDA Bersama Komuniti”.

The tournament was aimed at strengthening strategic partnerships while promoting healthy lifestyles among civil servants and industry stakeholders, according to an LCDA statement.

LCDA general manager Datuk Zaidi Mahdi said the event exceeded expectations for the authority’s first pickleball tournament, attracting 28 teams, 17 VIP pairs and 324 players.

“It certainly shows the enthusiasm and support from our partners,” he said, adding that he hoped it would be the first of many such sporting events.

Zaidi said the tournament reflected the trust and mutual respect built over years of collaboration between LCDA and its partners, noting that participants had set aside their usual meetings and formal engagements to connect on the court instead.

Competitions were divided into three main categories — the MUDeNR Statutory Bodies Category, Strategic Partners Category and VIP Category — with events including men’s doubles, women’s doubles, mixed doubles and a Veteran 45+ category.

Cash prizes totalling more than RM20,000 were up for grabs, in addition to trophies and medals.
