Woman held for running entertainment activities without licence

KUCHING: A late-night raid on an entertainment centre in Jalan Lapangan Terbang here ended with a local woman arrested and music equipment seized after the premises was allegedly found operating without a valid licence.

Kuching police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the 22-year-old was arrested at around 11.35pm last Friday (Sept 11).

The premises is being investigated for allegedly carrying out entertainment activities without a valid licence under Section 5(1) of the Entertainment Ordinance 2000.

If convicted, the offence carries a fine of up to RM20,000, imprisonment for up to five years, or both.

Alexson said police would continue monitoring entertainment premises and take enforcement action to ensure operators comply with regulations set by the authorities.

Entertainment premises operators in the city are reminded to obtain valid licences and strictly observe the operating hours imposed on their businesses.
