KAPIT: A RM250,000 Rural Transformation Project (RTP) allocation has been channelled to Nanga Selidi Longhouse to prepare a new site for the construction of a 23-door longhouse.
Baleh assemblyman Nicholas Kudi Jantai said the project was aimed at creating a more comfortable living environment while ensuring the community had access to better basic amenities.
He said the development of the new longhouse must be planned systematically, with proper consideration given to basic infrastructure and community harmony.
“Any arrangements involving separation from the original longhouse should be carried out peacefully so that relationships within the community can be preserved,” he said.
He said this when officiating at the RTP Nanga Selidi New Longhouse Site project here yesterday.
Kudi said communities planning to establish new longhouses were encouraged to have at least 20 doors to facilitate proper development planning and implementation.
He said site levelling works must also comply with Public Works Department (PWD) specifications, including lowering and levelling the site by up to 10 feet, while ensuring the site opening was suitable for longhouse development.
On basic amenities, Kudi said efforts to secure a water supply could begin once the site levelling works were completed.
He added that the use of solar batteries for electricity supply must comply with the stipulated specifications and be appropriate for light usage.
Kudi also expressed support for an application for a new cemetery to meet the needs of the local community.
He urged longhouse headmen facing water supply problems, particularly during the dry season, to report the matter to the District Office for further action.
At the event, Kudi also presented RM5,000 to Judson Jarrau for use by the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) and the longhouse community.
