MIRI: Quick action by residents helped prevent a rubbish fire from causing more extensive damage after flames spread to a house in Taman Fuu Tee, here on Friday afternoon (Sept. 18).
The fire, reported at about 3:10 pm at a house in Lorong 5, was already extinguished by members of the public using water from a domestic tap before firefighters reached the scene.
Firefighters from Lopeng Fire and Rescue Station arrived at 3:23 pm and found that the fire, which had started from burning rubbish, had spread to parts of the house.
The Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) estimated that about two per cent of the house structure had been affected.
No casualties were reported.
With the fire already out, firefighters did not need to conduct a firefighting operation. Instead, they carried out safety checks and monitored the area to ensure there were no remaining sources of fire.
The situation was declared under control at 3:26 pm, with the operation ending at 4:00 pm.
Nine firefighters were deployed using a Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) and an Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) vehicle.
The operation was led by PBK I Redzuan Bin Bilhe, while Lopeng Fire and Rescue Station chief, TPgB I Mashidi Bin Taha, was also at the scene.
The incident highlights how rapid intervention can help contain a fire before it develops into a more serious residential emergency.
