KUCHING: Samarahan Boulevard is expected to be fully developed within the next three years, with its RM70 million Phase 2 expected to be put out to
tender this year.
Integrated Regional Samarahan Development Agency (IRSDA) Steering Committee chairman Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said Phase 1 of the project, costing RM25 million, is currently being implemented and progressing well despite a slight delay.
“The total cost at the beginning was RM127 million.
“After Phase 1, I understand that this year, the implementing agency, Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS), will open another tender for Phase 2.
“Phase 2, if I am not mistaken, has a ceiling of around RM70 million set by the Sarawak State Financial Secretary (SFS),” he told a press conference after chairing the IRSDA Steering Committee Meeting No. 2/2026 at a hotel here today (Sept 22).
Abdul Karim, who is also the Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister said the completed boulevard would provide a venue for major programmes and events, helping to reduce congestion in Kuching when large-scale events were held at Padang Sentral.
He added that the plan is to develop Samarahan Boulevard as a new venue for major programmes, with the concept modelled after Putrajaya.
“So within the next two or three years — three years, I feel — we will see a very beautiful boulevard where we can hold major programmes,” he said.
