PETALING JAYA: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) has yet to decide on its candidates for the 13th Sarawak General Election, says its chairman, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
He said the coalition had yet to make a decision as the nomination date had not been determined.
“Oh, we do not know when the nomination will be held, so nothing has been decided yet,” he said, according to a TVS report.
The Premier was speaking to reporters after attending the closing ceremony of the National Planning Congress 2026 and MyCity Expo 2026 at the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) Civic Hall here today.
He was responding to questions on the full mandate given by GPS component parties for him to determine the coalition’s line-up for the upcoming state election.
On Wednesday (Oct. 4), Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, who is also Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu’s (PBB) deputy president, confirmed that all GPS component parties had entrusted Abang Johari with the responsibility of selecting the coalition’s candidates.
He said the decision was reached during a previous GPS meeting and subsequently received unanimous endorsement from PBB’s Supreme Council.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission (EC) is scheduled to hold a special meeting tomorrow (Friday, Nov. 6) to determine key dates for the 13th Sarawak General Election, following the dissolution of the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) on October 26.
At the 2021 state election, GPS, comprising PBB, Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP), Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) and Progressive Democratic Party (PDP), secured a commanding victory by winning 76 of the 82 contested seats.
For the upcoming election, GPS has indicated its readiness to defend all 82 DUN seats by fielding candidates across the state.
