Sony’s latest addition to its Alpha-7R series is what it calls the world’s first 61-megapixel full-frame system camera.
Until now, such a high resolution could only be found in medium-format cameras, which have an even larger image sensor than full-frame cameras.

The new Alpha 7R IV has an electronic OLED viewfinder with a 5.7-million-pixel resolution and can record up to ten frames per second in series with autofocus tracking.

Sony says users will be able to shoot professional 4K film footage in Super 35mm mode with the full pixel display. The data can be stored on fast UHS II SD cards, for which the camera offers two slots.

A fast focus is provided by 567 phase detection points covering almost three-quarters of the image sensor area. The Alpha 7R IV will be available from the end of August (without the lens). Prices start at US$4490. – dpa
