KUCHING: The Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) is one of three local authorities in Malaysia to receive the Malaysia Standard ISO 37001:2016 Anti-Bribery Management System (ABMS) certificate.

Commissioner Datuk Abang Abdul Wahap Abang Julai disclosed this during DBKU’s staff assembly at their headquarters on Bukit Siol, Jalan Semariang, yesterday.

“We are proud that DBKU is the first Sarawak government agency to have received the award,” he said.

The efforts of earning the ABMS certificate began when DBKU was selected by the Governance, Integrity and Anti-Corruption (GIACC) and United Nation Development Programme (UNDP) to be involved in the pilot project for the implementation of the Malaysian Standard MS ISO37001:2016 certification, Corruption Risk Management (CRM) System.

Wahap added that the achievement coincided with Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg’s wish that the state government has integrity and free of corruption.

ABMS was established by the International Standard Organisation to deal with corruption risk management and help organisations to contain, detect and act against all forms of corruption.

Regarding the commission’s assembly, it was held a day early from its usual Wednesday slot in order to give way to the Chief Minister’s Award (AKMS) Site Evaluation Panel Visit.

“On DBKU’s participation in AKMS 2019 for the state’s main agency category I am happy to say that we have made it to the next evaluation stage,” said Wahap.

“DBKU was also chosen in the final stage for the Customer Management for State/Department category. The site evaluation visit for this will be held on Aug 15.

“Thus, I urge all DBKU staff members to give their full cooperation and commitment to ensure that the commission fulfills the necessary requirements to win the award.”

The assembly also witnessed two teams, KIK Mekatrik 7 and Pengurusan Lean FMB, presenting their trophies and certificates for getting gold in the Sarawak and Sabah Regional Team Excellence Convention (RTex) 2019 held in Miri last July 25.

DBKU also recognised two staff members who served for 25 years including giving each of them a RM230 watch voucher, RM500 Amanah Saham Bumiputera (ASB) investment (for Bumiputera) and a RM500 Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN) Premium Certificate investment (for non-bumiputera).

Also given recognition were three DBKU staff members who will retire at the end of August. Each of them was presented with a certificate and a wristwatch.

Wahap also presented Group Term Life Insurance (GTL) cheques to two families. They lost their family members who worked for DBKU late last year and early this year.
