BINTULU: Giant colourful kites have been invading Bintulu town since Sept 25 in the 15th edition of the Borneo International Kite Festival 2019.
More than that, the event also entered the Malaysia Book of Records (MBR) in two categories namely, ‘The Most Number of Train Kites in Arch Tunnel’ and ‘The Biggest Train Kite Arch tunnel’.
For the most number of train kites, a total of 7,250 kites were flown this year, while the train kites arch tunnel boasts a measurement of 1,440m.
The festival broke the MBR in 2013, where 2,550 kites were flown all at once.
In 2014, another record was made for the largest arch kite tunnel that measured 500m with 2,500 kites.

Present to officiate at the closing ceremony yesterday at the old Bintulu airport were the Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud and his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Ragad Kurdi Taib.
Also in attendance were Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Integrity and Ombudsman) Datuk Talib Zulpilip and Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) general manager Rodziah Morshidi.
