KUCHING: About 2,000 people took part in Forest Fun Run 2019 at Sarawak State Library here yesterday.

The run was organised by the Sarawak Forest Department (FDS) in conjunction with its 100th anniversary.

Present to flag-off the run was Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg. Joining him were Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, Petra Jaya Member of Parliament (MP) Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, Deputy State Secretary Datuk Abu Bakar Marzuki and FDS director Hamden Mohammad.

After flagging-off the run, the Chief Minister and the others proceeded to a tree-planting ceremony at the vicinity of the library’s pond.

Ten trees were put in the ground, including an ‘Engkabang Jantong’ tree, which was planted by Abang Johari while Awang Tengah and Fadillah planted a belian tree.

Joining them for the tree-planting were the first 100 runners who had completed their run.

A lucky draw session was also held towards the end of the event.
