KUCHING: In a battle among Malaysians, Aaron Chai and Soh Wooi Yik land a seat in the Thailand Open semis after triumphing against Arif Junaidi and Yap Roy King with a 21-12, 21-13 straight win today.
In the first few minutes of set one, the World No. 5 pair was held in a tightly contested battle of wits and speed against their junior counterparts.
However, Aaron-Wooi Yik made a quick work in levelling their game with a series of smashes and cross court snaps, ending the set with a 21-12 win against their opponent.
The second set saw a different take of dominance in the early stages, with Arif-Roy King commanding the lead against the National Sportsman Award recipients.
Leveraging on their experience and synergy, Aaron-Wooi Yik were able to quickly turn the tables against the pair, cruising pass the World No. 21 pair with a 21-13 set win.
The Malaysian pair will now face Thailand’s Kittinupong Kedren/Dechapol Puavaranukroh on Saturday (May 17), who are currently ranked at World No. 16 podium.
