KUCHING: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has been appointed as the patron of the Pertubuhan Keturunan dan Waris Pengiran Sarawak (PKWPS).

PKWPS President, Dr Awang Nib Zuhairi Awang Ahmad, said the organisation was very pleased with the Premier’s agreement to take on this role.

“We are very happy that the Premier of Sarawak has agreed to become the patron of our organisation. This is delightful news to share,” he said after paying a courtesy visit to Abang Johari at the Satria Pertiwi Complex here today(Apr 8).

He shared that one of the main objectives of establishing PKWPS was to preserve the genealogy of the Pengiran lineage in Sarawak through studies conducted in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.

He said this effort includes documenting the history and development of the Pengiran group in Sarawak in collaboration with several reputable institutions.

“This study will involve cooperation with institutions such as Universiti Brunei, the Brunei History Association, the Brunei History Centre, as well as institutions in Sarawak to ensure that the genealogy and role of the Pengiran throughout Sarawak’s history can be well documented,” he explained.

He added that the visit also aimed to introduce the new PKWPS leadership team for the January 2026 to December 2027 session.
