KUCHING: The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) has urged consumers to report any complaints through WhatsApp at 019-848 8000, email at e-aduan@kpdn.gov.my, the KPDN Call Centre at 1-800-886-800, or the Ez ADU KPDN smartphone application.
Here is why: KPDN detected two cases of misleading price displays during an enforcement operation here, on Wednesday (Aug 26).
The cases involved offences under Section 12(1)(a) of the Consumer Protection Act 1999, which prohibits traders from giving misleading indications regarding the price of goods displayed for sale.
The first case was detected at about 11.22am at a business premises in Sejingkat, where a customer was charged RM13.20 for a product displayed at RM11.50.
The customer, who pointed out the RM1.70 price difference, requested to be charged according to the displayed price, but the trader allegedly refused.
KPDN enforcement officers subsequently seized a copy of the business ordinance licence, four sales receipts, a price tag and a promotional price tag for further investigation.
The second case was detected at about 12.43pm at a premises in Stutong.
The inspection found an offence under the same provision, with enforcement officers seizing a copy of the business ordinance licence and a pair of shoes valued at RM29.90.
Both cases are being investigated under the Consumer Protection Act 1999, with further action to be taken in accordance with the law.
KPDN Sarawak said it would continue to intensify monitoring and enforcement to ensure traders comply with regulations and do not mislead consumers over displayed prices.
