SIBU: The Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS) Sibu Branch’s Annual Inspection Parade 2026 held at Stadium Tun Zaidi here today (May 2) witnessed an encouraging and inspiring participation from the younger generation, with a total number of 378 student members taking part.

Speaking at the event held in conjunction with the celebration of World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day, MRCS Sibu Branch’s Chairman, Chua Hiong Kee, said the participating members made up of 15 Cadet contingents and six Junior contingents.

“Their active involvement reflects the continuous growth and strength of our humanitarian movement among the youth. The participation of these young members is deeply meaningful, as they represent the future torchbearers of the Red Cross and Red Crescent spirit.

“Through discipline, teamwork, leadership and service, they are learning the true values of humanity, compassion, and unity from a young age. Their commitment not only ensures the continuity of our noble mission, but also strengthens hope for a more caring, responsible, and united society in the future.

“This year’s theme, ‘United in Humanity’, carries a profound and meaningful message for all mankind. The theme reminds us that although we come from different races, religions, cultures, and backgrounds, we are united by one universal value – humanity,” he added.

Pointing out that in today’s increasingly challenging world, society needs greater understanding, compassion, and the spirit of helping one another, Chua stressed that ‘United in Humanity’ calls upon all everyone to stand together as a caring community, supporting one another and extending help to those in need regardless of differences.

Humanity, he noted, is not merely a word or an ideal but is compassion translated into action.

He said it is the willingness to step forward to help, to serve, and to care for others with sincerity and a strong sense of responsibility.

This spirit of unity in humanity, he said, forms the foundation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement throughout the world, and it is also the driving force behind the MRCS in continuing its humanitarian mission for the wellbeing of the community.

Humanitarian work is not limited to a selected few, it is a calling open to everyone, he stated, adding individuals from all walks of life – regardless of age, profession, or background – who are physically and mentally healthy and willing to serve the community, are all welcomed.

Thus, he made a sincere call to everyone to step forward and put “Humanity in Action.” so as not to become mere observers of arising social issues but instead choose courage over complacency, and action over apathy.

Even a small act of kindness can create hope in someone’s life, he said, adding that a helping hand, a caring word, or a few hours of volunteer service can make a tremendous difference to those in need.

“Today, as we gather here proudly in uniform, we are reminded that the strength of the MRCS does not only lie in our emblem, but in the hearts of the people who live out the spirit of humanitarian service every day.

“I would especially like to commend our school Red Crescent members. You are the backbone of our future humanitarian mission. Through your training, discipline, teamwork, and service activities, you are learning values that go far beyond the classroom. You are being nurtured to become future leaders with a strong social service mindset and compassionate hearts.

“Young members, I encourage all of you to truly put your ‘Humanity in Action’. Serve with sincerity, serve with grateful hearts, and continue to cultivate kindness and resilience within yourselves and your communities. The future needs young people who are not only intelligent, but also caring, responsible, and courageous enough to help others in times of need,” he asserted.

At the same time, Chua stated the event is also a meaningful opportunity to honour and appreciate all the volunteers, smart partners, supporters, and staff members for their continued dedication and invaluable contributions.

He noted that their collective humanitarian efforts have touched many lives and strengthened the spirit of care and solidarity within the society.

Whether responding during emergencies, organising blood donation campaigns, conducting first aid services, supporting welfare activities, or helping vulnerable communities, he pointed out that every contribution matters.

“Behind every successful humanitarian effort stands a team of committed individuals working quietly and selflessly for the good of humanity, Chua added.

The event was offciated by Bukit Assek assemblyman, Joseph Chieng Jin Ek. as the guest of honour.
