KUALA LUMPUR: AFFIN Islamic Bank Bhd has strengthened its commitment to inclusive healthcare with the launch of an Autism Friendly Zone at Hospital Angkatan Tentera Tuanku Mizan (HATTM).

Introduced in conjunction with World Autism Awareness Day 2026, the facility was funded through the bank’s RM70,000 contribution and features a sensory room and an outdoor play area within the hospital’s Paediatric Department.

The space is designed to provide a calmer and more supportive environment for children on the autism spectrum.

AFFIN Islamic’S Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Paduka Syed Mashafuddin Syed Badarudin, said the initiative is part of the AFFIN Group’s Neurodiversity Awareness Month.

“Our focus on the neurodivergent community is rooted in the belief that every child deserves understanding, comfort and an environment where they can interact with confidence,” he said in a statement on Tuesday (Apr 21).

He added that since 2025, the bank has placed greater emphasis on initiatives supporting early intervention and inclusive care.

Syed Mashafuddin said the effort also reflects the bank’s Value-Based Intermediation (VBI) agenda, which promotes responsible banking and long-term community impact.

“Through practical initiatives like this, we can help strengthen community support systems, improve access to care and contribute to more inclusive environments for children and families,” he said.

The project also complements broader efforts to enhance awareness, early support and intervention for children with autism, including within the armed forces community.

AFFIN Islamic said it will continue to pursue partnerships that advance inclusive community initiatives and improve access to essential services beyond financial offerings.
