KUCHING: Transport Minister, Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin, said all passengers and crew on Malaysia Airlines flight MH2742 are safe after the aircraft experienced a cabin-pressure issue en route from Kuala Lumpur to Bintulu on Tuesday.

In a statement, he said the flight crew executed a controlled rapid descent to 10,000 feet in line with standard operating procedures and landed safely at Bintulu Airport at 10:31 am.

“I commend the crew for their professionalism and composure in handling the situation,” Lee said, adding that Kuching Radar and Bintulu Tower air traffic controllers granted priority clearance for the approach and landing.

Meanwhile, Malaysia Airlines has begun a comprehensive internal review to identify the cause and prevent a recurrence.

Lee recorded his appreciation to the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM), air traffic control teams and all relevant agencies “for their swift and professional coordination throughout the incident”.

Additionally, Lee said the Ministry for Transport Sarawak will closely monitor all flights to, from, and within Sarawak and continue working with federal authorities, regulators and airlines to ensure safety standards and protocols “are strictly observed at all times”.
