CAMARILLO, California, Unites States (US): A farm worker has died after suffering catastrophic injuries during a US immigration raid at a legal cannabis farm in California, his family confirmed on Saturday.

The worker, identified by relatives only as Jaime, reportedly fell 30 feet while fleeing Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents during a chaotic Thursday raid that saw 200 undocumented migrants arrested in Ventura County.

His family, who had launched a GoFundMe campaign for medical expenses, updated the page to say he had “passed away”.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said the man was never in custody and claimed he was not being pursued.

“This individual climbed onto the roof of a greenhouse and fell,” said DHS spokesperson, Tricia McLaughlin.

A medevac was called immediately, she added.

Thursday’s enforcement operations targeted marijuana-growing sites in Carpinteria and Camarillo.

DHS said 10 children were rescued from potential exploitation, and more than 500 protesters tried to disrupt the raids.

Tear gas was deployed, and ICE vehicles were damaged.

Four US citizens face charges for assaulting or resisting officers, while a $50,000 reward has been offered for information on a suspect accused of firing at agents. – AFP
