SERIKIN: An attempt to smuggle drugs worth RM127,350 across the Malaysia-Indonesia border has been foiled after soldiers intercepted a foreign man using an illegal crossing route under the cover of night yesterday (Apr 28).
Troops from the 11th Battalion Royal Malay Regiment (11 RAMD), operating under the Third Infantry Brigade (3 Bgd), spotted the Indonesian carrying a package while attempting to slip out of Malaysia undetected.
He was stopped and searched, with checks indicating that he had no travel documents or any form of identification.
Preliminary questioning found that he was transporting the package from Malaysia to be smuggled into Indonesia.
Further inspections uncovered a mix of narcotics packed inside — 795g of syabu valued at RM119,250, 250 Erimin 5 pills worth RM7,500, and three bottles of vape liquid believed to contain mushroom substances worth RM600.
The First Infantry Division said the suspect and the seized drugs were later handed over to Bau police for further investigation.
“The drug bust reflects continued efforts by security forces to clamp down on cross-border smuggling along illegal routes.
“Patrols are being intensified to safeguard the state’s borders from criminal activities,” the division said.
Members of the public are urged to come forward with information on illegal border movements as collective vigilance remains key to tackling cross-border crime.
