KUCHING: The armed forces is implementing several key measures to improve border security operations and enhance operational capabilities in Sarawak.
These include the expansion of mobility assets such as tactical vehicles and patrol boats.
“Surveillance and border monitoring capabilities have also been upgraded by integrating drone technology, ensuring that our personnel maintain the highest level of readiness,” said Eastern Field Commander, Lieutenant General Datuk Mohd Sofi Mohd Lepi.
He said this when highlighting several key initiatives to bolster military capabilities at the breaking of fast with the Head of State at the Solahuddin Al-Ayyubi Mosque, Penrissen Camp yesterday.
These enhancements, he said, will allow for faster threat detection and response, reinforcing Sarawak’s security landscape.
“The success of these initiatives would not be possible without the unwavering support of the Sarawak State Government, as well as cooperation between government agencies and the private sector,” he said.
The army, he said, is stepping up efforts to modernise infrastructure and enhance operational readiness in Sarawak, with ongoing projects and technological advancements to strengthen national defence.
A significant component of this modernisation is constructing the new Eastern Field Command Headquarters (MK PMTTD) at Kem Batu Kawa and the Armed Forces Family Housing (RKAT) project at Kem Muara Tuang.
“The ongoing construction of the new command headquarters complex at Kem Batu Kawa and the Armed Forces Family Housing project at Kem Muara Tuang are expected to be completed by the end of next year,” he said.
Beyond housing and command infrastructure, Mohd Sofi said the army is introducing new training programmes and technological advancements to improve combat readiness and technical competency.
“To enhance technical competency and combat skills, we are developing the Small Arms and Virtual Training Simulator (SAVTS) infrastructure, ensuring our personnel remain highly competent across multiple warfare domains,” he said.
Additionally, new surveillance and reconnaissance capabilities are being integrated into operations.
