SARATOK: Police arrested a local man suspected of being involved in an arson incident involving a convenience store in Sri Aman.
Saratok district police chief DSP Mathew Manggie said a team from the Crime Investigation Department (CID) detained the 36-year-old suspect on Sept 21 at around 7.15pm.
The arrest was made in connection with an arson case reported at a convenience store located at Jalan Kecil, Sri Aman.
“Report stated that the suspect has been running an eatery in Saratok town for the past 10 years and was tested negative for drugs following a urine screening test.
“The team also seized a mobile phone from the suspect to facilitate investigations,” he said.
A background check revealed that the suspect has eight prior police records involving various offenses.
The case is currently being investigated under Section 436 of the Penal Code for commit mischief by fire or explosive substance with intent to destroy a house or building.
The suspect has since been handed over to the Sri Aman CID for further action and proceedings.
