KUCHING: Parti Aspirasi Rakyat Sarawak (Aspirasi) Lina Soo has taken offence with one Then Liak Ding claiming to be the party’s deputy publicity chief.
In a press statement here Sunday she said Then is not a party member and secondly, that there is no provision for a deputy publicity chief in the party constitution.
“This is cowboy politics by political desperados committed by a group of non-party members,” she said, likening it to an illegal takeover attempt of the party.
Soo also challenged Then to make a police report on his claims that the party was collecting membership funds without acknowledging receipt.
In this context she said Then has no locus standi to talk about the party or to comment on any activity by the party.
Referring to Andy Gines’ claim to be the party’s secretary general, Soo reiterated that Gines is not a party member.
As for Gines’ allegation that there was a vote of no-confidence against Soo as party president, she said this was unconstitutional and illegitimate as there is no provision in the party constitution to remove any party office-bearer who has been elected to a five-year term.
“The present Supreme Council and Central Working Committee were elected on 10th October 2021 for a five-year term which has received recognition from the Registrar of Societies (ROS), and whose term will end only in 2026.
“Any attempt to do a takeover bid by forming another Supreme Council in a fake AGM and election, whilst the incumbent Supreme Council has another three more years to serve, is unconstitutional and illegal,” Soo said.
Soo also called on Then and Gines to provide proof to the media that they have been recognised by ROS as party members qualified to hold positions in the Supreme Council.
She revealed that she has lodged a police report against Then for claiming to be a party member when he has no proof of membership, and inventing a party position for himself which does not exist in the party constitution.
And assistant secretary-general Chan Chee Hiong has made a police report against Andygie Gines for claiming to be the secretary-general when he is not a party member, she added.
“With that said, I must remind party members that there will be a second Annual General Meeting (AGM), to be held at 1pm on March 12, as the first AGM held on Feb 12 cannot be legitimised due to insufficient quorum.
“The agenda of the AGM on March 12 is to confirm the minutes of the last AGM 2022, and to adopt the Treasurer-General’s financial report for 2022 for submission to the Registrar of Societies (ROS),” she added.
