MUKAH: The Sarawak Government has invested at least RM3 billion over the past five years to execute critical infrastructure projects and elevate basic facilities across the Mukah Division.
Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs, Information and UKAS) Datuk Abdullah Saidol said that the total allocation covers various public works designed to bridge the development gap in coastal and rural settlements.
“Over the last five years, a total of 78 Projek Rakyat involving public amenities and basic infrastructure have been implemented in Mukah, with a total value of approximately RM1.3 billion,” he said.
“This data excludes allocations under the Regional Corridor Development Authority (RADDA) amounting to RM1.5 billion, as well as over RM2 billion committed for water supply, electricity, and telecommunications infrastructure from 2018 until now,” he added.
He said this during his speech at dinner with community leaders and village chiefs (KMKKs) at Kingwood Resort, attended by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg on Friday night (Oct 2).
Abdullah, who is Semop assemblyman, highlighted the unique connectivity challenges in Mukah Division where it features 13 major bridges – including the Batang Lassa, Batang Igan and Batang Paloh bridges – making it one of the regions with the highest number of major river crossings in the state.
“In terms of road connectivity alone, the cost of constructing and upgrading road networks in Mukah has exceeded RM1 billion.
“Furthermore, under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP), a total of 1,338 projects valued at RM55 million have been completed,” he said.
Regarding water utility development, Abdullah revealed that 68 water supply projects worth RM2.1 billion have been planned and implemented in Mukah for the 2018 to 2026 period to guarantee clean and reliable water access.
