MIRI: Emergency responders and technical agencies are monitoring a suspected gas leak at a construction site along Jalan Perdana, Tudan, with the situation reported to be under control.
The monitoring operation began at about 11am on Thursday and involved a multi-agency response led by the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM).
Fire officers said the area had been assessed and there was no immediate indication that the incident posed an escalating risk. However, samples have been taken for analysis by the Chemistry Department, with the results to be released once laboratory testing is complete.
Several government agencies and utility providers were deployed to the site to support the investigation and coordinate follow-up measures. They included officers from the Chemistry Department, PETROS, Sarawak Energy’s contractor, the Resident’s Office, Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) and XD Power.
Firefighters from the Lutong Fire and Rescue Station’s Bravo Team remained at the scene alongside representatives from the various agencies.
Officials were also awaiting the arrival of the Department of Minerals and Geoscience (JMG), which is expected to carry out further technical assessments before any additional action is taken.
No injuries or evacuations were reported, and authorities said the situation remained under close observation while investigations continued.
Further updates are expected after the Chemistry Department completes its analysis and the relevant technical agencies conclude their assessments.
