KUCHING: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has agreed in general to support the establishment of a training centre for the Malaysia Civil Defence Force (MCDF) Sarawak.
This was conveyed by Abang Johari after receiving a courtesy call from the APM delegation led by APM Sarawak director Abdul Wahab Rahim at Wisma Bapa Malaysia here yesterday.
When met by the media, Abdul Wahab said the purpose of the courtesy visit was to discuss several plans including establishing an APM training centre in Sarawak.
“We conveyed our desire to establish a Civil Defence Force Training Centre in Sarawak. We need his support and he (Abang Johari) supports the matter.
“We will extend the project to the head office again to be considered, with the support of the Premier,” he said as reported by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS) in a news report.
Abdul Wahab said that APM Sarawak thus far has 10,000 active members and 3,000 daily members.
Later, the Premier also received a second courtesy call from the delegation of the National Film Development Corporation of Malaysia (FINAS) led by its chief executive officer, Professor Dr Md Nasir Ibrahim.
According to Dr Md Nasir, the purpose of the visit was to discuss cooperation between FINAS and the Sarawak government to develop the film industry in the state.
“Our courtesy visit to the Premier is to discuss matters related to the film industry in Sarawak.
“And FINAS and the Sarawak government will work together to develop the film industry in Sarawak,” he said.
While noting that the Sarawak government takes the creative industry here very seriously, he said, the film industry in Sarawak may be slow if the ecosystem is not developed.
