KUCHING: Angkatan Zaman Mansang (AZAM) Sarawak held a breaking of fast event here for journalists to bolster its strategic partnership with the media.

Its Chief Executive Officer, Ali Suhaili, said the event was organised as a gesture of appreciation to media partners who have long served as strategic collaborators in communicating the state’s development agenda to the public.

“Every media platform, whether print, broadcast or digital, plays a vital role in shaping public understanding. Accurate and credible reporting is essential in ensuring development narratives are conveyed responsibly,” he said.

He said this at the AZAM Media Iftar 2026 held at Dormani Hotel on Tuesday (March 3).

Established in 1983, AZAM has evolved in line with the state leadership’s aspirations to strengthen participatory communication.

Ali stressed that the organisation’s transformation goes beyond adapting to new technology, encompassing strategic refinement and improved delivery approaches aligned with Sarawak’s development direction.

“In the era of the digital economy and artificial intelligence, organisations must remain responsive and competitive while upholding integrity and public trust,” he added.

As part of its digital expansion, AZAM has enhanced its communication initiatives through the progress e-publication, awareness infographics and more interactive social media campaigns.

The organisation has also introduced artificial intelligence (AI) characters, ELI and KAI, to simplify complex information and make it more accessible, particularly to younger digital audiences.

Meanwhile, AZAM Board Member and Deputy Chairman of the Strategic Communication Committee, Alice Wee, described the media as a fundamental pillar in building an informed society, emphasising the importance of editorial discipline, factual accuracy and ethical judgment.

The event, themed ‘Sands of Prosperity’, gathered about 30 representatives from print, broadcast and new media organisations across the state.
