KUCHING: Residents of Batu Kawa here can now enjoy improved connectivity and greater access to public transport, following the official launch of Bas.My Kuching’s latest route into the area.

The expansion introduces six dedicated buses under the Bas.My Kuching programme, which will now service key residential, educational, commercial and healthcare zones across Batu Kawa.

Chairman of the Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board (LPKP) Sarawak, Michael Kong Feng Nian, described the expansion as a significant step towards easing congestion and promoting public transport in one of Kuching’s growing areas.

“Since the successful launch of our first route under the Bas.My Kuching brand, we have received overwhelming feedback and support from the public.

“One of the most frequent requests has been for the service to be extended to Batu Kawa and today, we are proud to deliver on that request,” he said in his statement.

He added that weekday operations will begin as early as 5:30 am from SJK Chung Hua Batu Kawa, and 6:30 am from Saujana with the final buses running at 7:30 pm on both ends.

”Peak hour frequency will be increased to every 30 minutes during the 6:30 am to 8:30 am and 4:30 pm to 7:30 pm slots to meet expected demand,” he added.

Kong also pointed out that the move aims to provide a viable alternative to private vehicles for residents in highly congested areas such as Moyan, Malihah and Sejijak.

“By offering this reliable and efficient public transport service, we hope to ease traffic and reduce the environmental impact of urban commuting.

“This launch marks an exciting milestone in our ongoing commitment to transform and uplift the public transportation industry in Kuching and Sarawak,” he stated.

Kong urged residents in Batu Kawa to embrace public transport as a practical, comfortable and sustainable way to travel, adding that LPKP Sarawak will continue to listen to public feedback and expand services to meet growing needs.

On another note, among the areas covered under the new route are Everbright Park, Taman Kwong Thiong, Taman Boulder Built, Tematu Hill, Taman Chungnion Villa, Jalan Field Force, Taman Desa Wira, and RPR Batu Kawa.

The buses will also stop at several schools, including SJK Chung Hua No. 4, SM Sunny Hill, SJK Chung Hua Batu Kawa, and SJK Chung Hua Stapok.

Commercial centres such as Emart Batu Kawa, MJC Batu Kawa, Pines Square, Third Mile market and commercial centre, as well as Batu Kawa Commercial Centre are also part of the route.

Healthcare access is boosted with stops at Timberland Medical Centre and Sarawak General Hospital.
