MIRI: The Batang Baram Delta dredging project is progressing 2.7 per cent ahead of schedule.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, during a visit to the project site this afternoon, said he was pleased with the progress of the works, which are expected to be completed by March 2027.

Uggah, who is also the Infrastructure and Port Development Minister, said the management and contractor have been urged to revise the project timeline with the aim of bringing forward completion to October 2026.

Joining him during the visit were Transport Minister, Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin; Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development (Port Development), Datuk Majang Renggi; Batu Danau state assemblyman, Datuk Paulus Palu Gumbang; MIPD Permanent Secretary, Datuk Chiew Chee Yau; Miri Port Authority General Manager, Serawa Budol; Public Works Department (PWD) Sarawak Director, Datuk Dr Cassidy Morris; and MIPD Port’s Adviser, Datuk Ian James.

The Batang Baram Delta dredging project, which began last year, is expected to significantly boost Miri’s economic landscape.

Paulus, who is also the Miri Port Authority (MPA) Chairman, was previously quoted as saying that the project to deepen the Kuala Baram access channel would strengthen Miri’s economic dynamism and support the government’s vision of developing Sarawak into a progressive state.

He also said the 33-month project, scheduled for completion in early 2027, would further enhance service delivery for port users.

“With that I would like to thank the Sarawak Government and all agencies, customers and all parties who are contributing to this important project,” he was quoted as saying.
