SEBUYAU: A total of 3,000 runners took part in the Batang Lupar Bridge 1 Half Marathon 2026 today (July 12), showcasing the iconic bridge while promoting healthy living and sports tourism in Sarawak.

Sarawak Deputy Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development Datuk Aidel Lariwoo flagged off the 10km and 5km categories on behalf of Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, while Sarawak Public Works Department (PWD) director Datuk Cassidy Morris earlier flagged off the 21km race.

The event featured three categories comprising 21km, 10km and 5km, attracting 596 participants in the half marathon, 776 in the 10km race and 1,628 in the 5km event.

Held on the Batang Lupar 1 Bridge, recognised by the Malaysia Book of Records as the country’s longest river crossing bridge, the event gave participants from across the country the rare opportunity to run on one of Sarawak’s landmark infrastructure projects.

The marathon also reflected the Sarawak Government’s and PWD Sarawak’s commitment to leveraging world class infrastructure to promote sports tourism, strengthen community engagement and support the state’s economic growth.
