KUCHING: A total of 73 high achieving students from the Batu Kawah constituency were recognised for their strong performance in the 2025 Malaysian Higher School Certificate (STPM) examination with cash incentives and certificates of appreciation presented by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian.
Students who obtained cumulative grade point averages (CGPAs) between 3.00 and 4.00 received incentives ranging from RM400 to RM1,000 during the presentation ceremony.
Dr Sim, who is also Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government, said recognising academic excellence was a way of encouraging students to continue striving for success while acknowledging the efforts of parents and teachers.
“Every public examination sees many students achieving excellent results, reflecting the hard work of Sarawak’s students, the importance that parents place on education, and the unwavering dedication of our teachers,” he said in a statement.
Among the recipients were 31 students from SMK Batu Kawa, while the remaining awardees were students from other secondary schools residing within the Batu Kawah constituency.
Dr Sim said Sarawak had produced many outstanding professionals across various fields, including internationally recognised cancer specialists and researchers, and would continue to require more highly skilled talent as the state advances its development agenda and strengthens its role as a regional hub within ASEAN.
He said the Sarawak Government remains committed to talent development through various education and welfare initiatives, including the Free Tertiary Education Scheme (FTES) at four Sarawak-owned higher learning institutions.
He also encouraged students to pursue higher education and contribute to Sarawak’s development in the years ahead.
Meanwhile, officers from Yayasan Sarawak briefed students and parents on higher education assistance, study loans, and scholarship opportunities available through the state government to help them better understand the support provided for tertiary education.
