KUCHING: Puncak Borneo Member of Parliament (MP), Datuk Willie Mongin has called on the people of Puncak Borneo to understand the financial constraints faced by MPs, as the annual federal allocation falls far short of the actual needs on the ground.
He said each MP currently receives RM2.3 million annually under the Federal Outright Grant (OG).
“In Puncak Borneo alone, applications for financial assistance exceed RM12 million every year, while the allocation available is only RM2.3 million.
“This means many deserving requests cannot be fulfilled immediately, despite our best intentions,” he said.
Willie appealed to residents, community leaders and organisations to be patient and understanding.
“I sincerely ask the people of Puncak Borneo to understand these financial limitations.
“It is never easy to tell deserving applicants that we are unable to assist due to insufficient funds.
“Please know that every application is carefully considered, and every decision is made fairly based on the resources available,” he said.
He stressed that despite the challenges, giving up is never an option.
“I remain fully committed to serving the people. We will continue to do our very best within our means while exploring every possible avenue to secure additional funding for our constituency,” he added.
Willie explained that the Federal OG is primarily used to support Village Development and Security Committees (JKKKs), community associations, schools, non-governmental organisations, religious bodies and other local organisations in carrying out activities and community programmes.
In addition to the Federal OG allocation, MPs also receive RM2 million under the Physical Projects (PMR) allocation, which is specifically designated for small-scale infrastructure projects such as upgrading roads, drainage systems, community halls and other public facilities.
However, he noted that both allocations remain insufficient to meet the growing demands for development projects and welfare assistance throughout the constituency.
Despite these limitations, Willie pledged to continue engaging with relevant ministries, government agencies and other funding sources to secure additional assistance for projects that will benefit the people of Puncak Borneo.
“My commitment to the people remains unchanged. I will continue working tirelessly to ensure that no opportunity is missed in bringing more development and assistance to Puncak Borneo.
“While resources may be limited, my determination to serve the people is not,” he said.
