MIRI: Miri police intensified crime prevention efforts across the district on Friday night (Jul 31) through large-scale integrated operations involving roadblocks, patrols and inspections of entertainment outlets.
A total of 28 police personnel, comprising five senior officers and 23 rank-and-file officers, took part in the operations, which were aimed at deterring crime and enhancing police visibility in public areas.
Prior to the deployment, a briefing was conducted at Ruai Kenyalang, Miri District Police Headquarters, by ASP Lee Yen Fang, Head of the District Crime Prevention and Community Safety Division.
Officers were assigned to roadblocks, snap checks, mobile patrols and inspections of entertainment premises.
The operations commenced at 10 pm with roadblocks set up at strategic locations throughout the Miri district.
During the enforcement exercise, officers detected various traffic offences, including driving without a valid licence, illegal vehicle modifications, missing side mirrors, modified exhaust systems, non-compliant registration plates and expired road tax.
Seven traffic summonses were issued during the operations.
Police patrols and snap checks were also carried out in residential neighbourhoods, villages and along major roads as part of the force’s omnipresence strategy, which is designed to deter criminal activity while reassuring the public through a visible police presence.
Meanwhile, inspections at entertainment outlets resulted in enforcement action against one premises found operating without a valid entertainment licence.
Authorities arrested an individual and seized relevant items under the Entertainment Ordinance.
Miri police said similar integrated operations will continue from time to time as part of ongoing efforts to curb crime, strengthen law enforcement and maintain a visible police presence across the district.
