SIBU: A total of 33 Village Security and Development Committees (JKKKs) here were presented with special grants by Bawang Assan assemblyman Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh on Monday (May 25).
The presentation ceremony took place at the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) Bawang Assan Branch’s premises.
Wong, who is also PDP senior vice-president, said every longhouse in Bawang Assan constituency will receive his special grant allocation — some more, some less.
” It is based on the number of doors in each longhouse. The longer longhouses will receive more while the smaller ones will receive less. In this way, I hope to help as many people as possible.
” It is my hope that the money you receive today can help support your coming Gawai celebration programmes and activities.”
According to him, there are simply too many applications for his grants— from churches, schools, PIBGs, temples, associations, sporting and recreational bodies, NGOs, and many others, numbering in the hundreds.
He pointed out that he could only help as much as possible, especially those who are genuinely in need of assistance.
“’Segulai Sejalai’ is our culture and way of life. As Gawai approaches, not only the Dayak community but people of all races and backgrounds will join together in the celebrations in the true spirit of unity, harmony and mutual respect.
” Once again, I wish all of you a joyful, peaceful, and prosperous Gawai Dayak. Gayu Guru Gerai Nyamai,” Wong said.
