SIBU: Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) is among local authorities nationwide that will organise the Gotong-Royong Hari Cuci Malaysia programme simultaneously on Saturday (Sept 26).
In Sibu, the event, held in conjunction with World Cleanup Day 2026, will take place at Hui Ning Garden, Grand Heights, from 7am to 11am.
The programme is an initiative by the Ministry of Housing and Local Government and aims to contribute to the Malaysia Book of Records under Hari Cuci Malaysia 2026, with a target participation of 200,000 people nationwide.
Communities across Malaysia will come together to carry out cleaning and environmental activities as part of the campaign.
For Sibu, organising chairman Teo Choon Teck said between 250 and 300 participants were expected to join the launch programme.
“In addition to the gotong-royong activity, there will be free health screenings, Zumba and a waste-to-wealth programme at the same venue.
“A total of 300 door gifts will be distributed to participants on a first-come, first-served basis.
“Members of the public, especially residents in the Grand Heights area, are cordially invited to join the programme,” Teo said at a press conference today.
Later in the afternoon, from 1pm to 4pm, a waste-to-wealth programme will be held at the Bukit Lima Timur 14 Basketball Court in collaboration with JKKK Bukit Lima and Belatok.
Teo urged the public to bring recyclable items such as plastic bottles, computers, old newspapers and other materials, including used cooking oil, to Hui Ning Garden in the morning or the Bukit Lima Timur 14 Basketball Court in the afternoon.
An added attraction will be mystery prizes awaiting lucky participants in the cleaning campaign.
To be eligible for the prizes, participants will have to scan a QR code placed at Hui Ning Garden.
