BINTULU: Shoraka Kenyalang Sdn Bhd (SKSB), in collaboration with Koperasi Pelabuhan Bintulu Bhd (KOPELA), launched Bayar Jak, a digital Islamic financial platform offering Earned Wage Access (EWA) services to cooperative members on Friday.

Through this service, workers registered as KOPELA members can access a portion of their earned wages before the official payday.

This initiative is a significant step towards strengthening financial inclusion while reducing reliance on unlicensed lenders and high-interest credit facilities.

Bayar Jak integrates directly with employers’ payroll systems, allowing users to securely and flexibly monitor and withdraw their salaries via a syariah-compliant digital platform.

KOPELA’s Chairman, Sufri Bohari, said the service provides vital support to members facing financial emergencies, such as medical expenses or urgent necessities.

“Early access to wages offers financial freedom to our members, particularly during unforeseen circumstances,” he said.

Meanwhile, Shoraka Kenyalang Sdn Bhd’s Director, Muhammad Zar Abdul Sukor stated that the EWA services through Bayar Jak are not merely a financial tool but part of a broader effort to create a more responsive and sustainable payroll system.

“Financial wellbeing is closely tied to mental and physical health.

“By enabling access to earned income, we help reduce financial stress, improving employee productivity and overall welfare,” he explained.

Bayar Jak is expected to expand with additional services, including digital invoice financing for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and targeted credit facilities for civil servants, aligning with the Sarawak Digital Economy Master Plan 2030.

The platform is fully operated by SKSB, a subsidiary of Shoraka Group and a member of the Sarawak Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), while KOPELA is the cooperative body of Bintulu Port Holdings Bhd (BPHB).

This initiative supports Sarawak’s agenda to promote safe, ethical and sustainable financial solutions, enhancing the community’s economic resilience.

Present at the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony were Shoraka Group’s Chairman, Datuk Hasnul Ismar; Group Chief Executive Officer, Wan Ahmad Nazim; Muhammad Zar Abdul Sukor, Sufri Bohari, and KOPELA representatives.
