KUCHING: The Department of Agriculture Sarawak has alerted the public to a scam involving the unauthorised use of its name, logo, and documents by irresponsible individuals to deceive victims.
The department said it had received complaints from the public on fraudulent activities carried out by parties impersonating the department.
“These individuals have been reported to use fake documents and unofficial communication channels to lure victims into sharing personal information, making payments, or engaging in suspicious transactions,” the department said in a statement.
The department also stressed they had never appointed third parties or used private communication channels to request personal details or payments from the public.
“All official dealings are only conducted through verified and legitimate channels,” it added.
The department reminded and advised members of the public to be vigilant of suspicious calls, messages, or letters.
“Contact the nearest Department of Agriculture Sarawak office or use official channels for verification before proceeding with any transactions.
“Please report scam attempts to the Royal Malaysia, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission, or directly to the department,” it added.
The department said it views the matter seriously and will continue to work closely with the relevant authorities to curb such fraudulent acts and protect public interest.
