MIRI: The Miri Open Stadium will undergo further upgrading works to improve comfort, safety and usability for athletes and the public.

Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Sebastian TingChiew Yew, said his working visit to the stadium was aimed at personally inspecting the condition of the facilities that require maintenance and improvement works.

He said the project will involve repairing several key facilities to ensure that the stadium remains comfortable, safe and conducive for use by athletes and the public.

“Following this inspection, I have asked the engineers from the Public Works Department (PWD) Miri to prepare a maintenance planning proposal and cost estimates for this stadium,” he said when met during the visit yesterday (May 25).

He added that the proposed plan and cost estimates will be submitted to the relevant ministry and the Sarawak Premier for approval of the allocation.

He expressed optimism that the implementation of the upgrading and maintenance works would greatly benefit athletes in the Miri Division in particular, as well as the Northern Zone in general, by enabling them to train and carry out sports activities in a more comfortable and higher-quality environment.
