KUCHING: The construction of farm and village roads in the Jagoi area under the Tasik Biru state constituency is set to enhance agricultural activities and improve the livelihoods of villagers.

Deputy Minister of Transport (Riverine and Marine), Datuk Henry Jinep said a total of RM3 million has been allocated to implement the project, which will benefit residents in nine villages in the Jagoi area.

The villages to benefit from the Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA) allocation are Kpg Serasot 1, Kpg Serasot 2, Kpg Stass Krawong, Kpg Stass St Mark, Kpg Duyoh, Kpg Bogag, Kpg Sebobog, Kpg Plaman Buow and Kpg Skibang.

The Tasik Biru assemblyman said the farm roads are crucial for farmers and villagers to commute and transport their produce to markets more efficiently.

“The good thing is , the Ketua Kaum have the privilege to decide which road within their own villages are to be upgraded for the benefit of many,” he said.

He stressed that improved infrastructure would not only reduce transportation costs but also minimise post-harvest losses and facilitate faster access to their destinations.

“I want to see the whole project completed within eight months so that the people can enjoy the results of development from the government quickly,” he added.

Construction works are expected to commence soon.

The project briefing and symbolic handover of project site from the Public Works Department to the contractor was held at the Kpg Bogag community hall, Bau recently in the presence of Henry.
