KUCHING: The reconstruction project for the Biawak Health Clinic is being intensified to ensure surrounding residents can enjoy more comfortable, modern and conducive healthcare facilities in the future.

Opar assemblyman, Billy Sujang, said the reconstruction of the clinic is crucial due to the poor and dilapidated condition of the existing clinic, which has also been operating from a resident’s house for a long time.

“The situation not only affects the comfort of healthcare workers and patients, but also limits the delivery of more efficient healthcare services to residents in the surrounding areas,” he said.

He said this during a discussion session on the proposed reconstruction project for the Biawak Health Clinic held at the Kuching Divisional Health Office on Thursday (May 7).

Billy added that the original landowner of the site currently occupied by the clinic has also reclaimed the land, making the construction of a new clinic an urgent necessity.

The project is still at the siting stage, involving the search for a suitable proposed site after the current location was found to be uneconomical for development under the RM15-million project allocation ceiling.

As such, several proposed new sites are being reviewed to ensure the reconstruction project can be implemented more practically while meeting the required technical specifications.

Billy also stressed that the new clinic would not only benefit residents along Jalan Biawak, but would also help strengthen healthcare service delivery to communities living near the border areas.

Also present were Sarawak State Health Department’s Deputy Director (Public Health), Dr Mohammad Nazarudin Bahari, and Kuching Divisional Health Officer, Dr Johnny Pangkas.
