BINTULU: Locals have been urged not to remain mere spectators of Bintulu’s rapid growth, but to take an active role in shaping the town’s future.
Kemena assemblyman Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom said active participation by the people is crucial to ensure that the benefits of development are truly felt by the community.
He called on residents to view ongoing progress as an opportunity to empower themselves by upgrading their knowledge and skills, enabling them to be part of the development process.
“I don’t want the people of Bintulu to be left behind by development. They should instead be active players.
“We want them to work hard, be directly involved, and reap the benefits of the progress taking place,” he said when met after attending the full rehearsal for the 2025 Sarawak-Level Malaysia Day Celebration at the Bintulu Old Airport site on Sunday (Sept 14).
The Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Minister also reflected on Bintulu’s transformation from a small fishing town with a population of around 5,000 into one of Malaysia’s major industrial hubs.
“With Samalaju Industrial Park and various other facilities, Bintulu is now a source of pride for all Sarawakians,” he added.
On the upcoming state-level Malaysia Day celebration, Dr Rundi said preparations are now in their final stage, while commending the strong spirit of cooperation among the organising committee and the active involvement of various communities regardless of race and religion in ensuring the event’s success.
The main celebration, scheduled for Sept 16 at 8pm, is expected to be graced by Sarawak Governor Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, as well as Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
