KUCHING: The National Bioeconomy Showcase 2025 (NBiOSHOWCASE 2025), held in conjunction with the International Digital Economy Conference Sarawak (IDECS25), recorded more than RM300 million in potential bio-based investments and sales, reflecting Sarawak’s growing strength in the green innovation sector.
Deputy Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development, Datuk Francis Harden Hollis, said the achievement highlights increasing confidence and collaboration among local and international bio-based industry players.
“Through Bioeconomy Corporation’s facilitation, 22 BioNexus Status and Bio-based Accelerator (BBA) companies in Sarawak have generated approved investments of about RM574 million,” he said when representing Minister Datuk Seri Roland Sagah Wee Inn at the event.
Bioeconomy Corporation’s Chief Executive Officer, Mohd Khairul Fidzal Abdul Razak, said the showcase marked a milestone in advancing healthcare, agricultural and industrial innovations towards a sustainable bioeconomy.
Among the event’s highlights were the memoranda of understanding (MoU), between Bioeconomy Corporation and University Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) to strengthen research and talent development, and another with Bioverde Technologies Sdn Bhd to boost commercialisation and market intelligence sharing.
The showcase also saw RM5 million worth of MoUs inked between Mentari Alam Eko (M) Sdn Bhd (MAEKO) and IJO Borneo Sdn Bhd to enhance food waste management, as well as a collaboration between RCERT Sdn Bhd and TIRS Optics Co Ltd from Taiwan to advance nanoscale research technology.
Harden also launched four new bio-based products developed by Sarawak-based companies, including hypoallergenic pet food from insect protein, midin botanical teas, ready-to-eat tempeh (fermented soybeans) and sustainable protein blends, collectively valued at over RM3 million in potential sales over three years.
The ceremony also introduced the BBA AI-Portal, an AI-powered platform profiling over 600 Malaysian bio-based companies by sector and state.
NBiOSHOWCASE 2025 is a flagship event organised by Bioeconomy Corporation, and held during IDECS25 at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching, with support from local and international industry partners.
