BINTULU: Twenty-one residents were left with only the clothes on their backs after a devastating fire swept through Kampung Jepak Sebuan Besar, destroying six houses yesterday (Jul 1).

The 2.30 pm blaze affected a total of eight houses — six were razed to the ground, while two others sustained minor damage.

Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported as all occupants managed to escape to safety.

According to the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), firefighters from Bintulu and Kidurong stations were dispatched to the scene, about 10km away, following an emergency call.

Upon arrival, the team found several houses already engulfed in flames. Firefighters proceeded to extinguish the blaze using water from a nearby hydrant and their fire truck.

The flames were brought under control by 3.30 pm, followed by overhaul operations to prevent any possible reignition.

The firefighters wrapped up the operation at 5.22 pm.

The cause of the fire and losses incurred are still under investigation.
